Summary
Captanel is a desktop app. Your servers, passwords, keys and files stay on your computer and your servers. We do not collect them.
What the app sends to us
- License check and installation check-in: When the program starts, and every 6 hours while it is open, it sends: the installation number (a number the program creates itself, starting with KPT-), an anonymous device ID derived from your computer, a hardware ID derived from your computer's motherboard and system disk numbers (the numbers themselves are not sent, only a one-way summary), your license key if any, the program version, the operating system type and the license status. The IP address of the connection, the approximate location derived from it (country, region, city) and the name of your internet provider are recorded. We use this only to check that licenses are used correctly and to prevent unauthorized use. If unlicensed or unauthorized use is detected, the program may stop working on that computer; data on your servers and your computer is never touched. Captanel needs an internet connection: the trial starts at the first connection, and the program stops if it cannot connect for more than 7 days. We use the hardware ID to prevent the trial from restarting when the computer is reformatted or the program is reinstalled.
- Updates: the program asks captanel.com whether a new version is available.
- Team list (only if you use it): your shared server list is stored encrypted with your team password; the password is never sent to us and we cannot read its contents.
- Access from anywhere (only if you turn it on): Your server list, settings and, if you choose, your passwords are encrypted on your computer and then stored at captanel.com. If you choose your own Google Drive or S3 storage, they are written there and never reach us. The key is derived from your master password and a Secret Key that exists only on your devices; neither is sent to us and we cannot read the content. What we store: the encrypted vault and its five previous versions, the vault’s size and when it changed, the anonymous IDs of the devices connected to it and the computer names you give them. When you turn it off, the vault is deleted with all its versions. It is also deleted when the licence is deleted or when the vault has not been used for 12 months.
- Recovery backup (only if you turn it on): Your server list, settings and passwords are encrypted on your computer with your recovery password and stored at captanel.com. The password and the recovery code are never sent to us; we cannot read the content.
- Problem reports: only when you choose “Report a problem”, review the report and send it yourself.
- Phone control and notifications (only if you use them): The Captanel Cep service installed on your server keeps an always-on connection to captanel.com, so that we can notify you when the server goes down. This connection carries only a random ID, a random notification code that belongs to your computer, the language and the time it was last seen. Commands and replies between your phone, your computer and your server also pass through captanel.com. These messages are end-to-end encrypted: the keys exist only on your devices, and we cannot read their content. They are kept for at most 12 hours in case a command is missed. Your server’s name, content and passwords are never sent to us. When there is a problem, we receive only “problem / fixed” and the server’s short code. If you turn on notifications on your phone, we store your phone’s notification address. This address is given by Google, Apple or your browser’s notification service. Notifications are sent encrypted through that service.
- Discord bot (only if you use it): The bot is an application you create in Discord. The bot token is stored only on your computer and your server and is never sent to us. So that commands in Discord can reach your server, captanel.com stores: your application’s ID, the public key given by Discord, your server’s Captanel Cep link code and a signing key created only for this purpose. With this signing key, only the game status can be read, games can be started or stopped and a notification channel can be chosen. The reply to a command (game status, player count, player names in Minecraft) is passed on to Discord and is not stored by us.
- AI features (only if you use them): The request you type into the AI terminal, your server’s operating system name and, only if you tick the box, the last terminal output (with lines that look like passwords hidden) are sent through captanel.com to our AI service provider, and the answer comes back to you. Information you enter for site and shop texts is sent the same way. We do not store this content. To count your credits, we record only the type of task, the credits used and the time.
- Reviews (only if you write one): With a review you send from the app, we store your name, title, rating, review text, language and whether you have a license. Your anonymous device ID is also kept so that there is one review per computer; it is never shown on the site. A review is published on captanel.com with your name and title only after approval, and it is removed when you ask.
What the website collects
- Messages you send through the contact form (name, e-mail, message).
- Visit statistics: when a page opens, a small script on the site records the page, the site you came from (domain only), your IP address, the approximate location derived from it (country, region, city), the name of your internet provider, and your device, browser and operating system type. Downloads of the installer are recorded the same way. We use this only to see how many people visit and where they come from. No cookies are used for this, and the data is not shared with advertisers or anyone else.
- When you buy: your purchase is processed by our payment partner, who receives your payment details. We receive your name, e-mail, country and order details to issue your license.
- We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep data
License and order records are kept as long as required by tax law. Contact messages are deleted after two years. In visit statistics, IP addresses are deleted after 30 days and the rest of the record after 90 days. The IP address in installation records is deleted if the installation is not seen for 12 months. The Captanel Cep “running” record is deleted if the server sends nothing for 14 days or when you remove the service. A notification subscription is deleted when you turn notifications off on your phone or when the notification service reports that it has ended. To limit abuse, the IP address is kept for at most one hour. Captanel Cep messages are kept for at most 12 hours. The Discord record is deleted when you remove the bot in Captanel. Reviews are kept until you ask for deletion or we remove them.
