Memory and swap
When memory fills up, Linux closes the program using the most memory (a game, a database) and the server may stop answering. Swap prevents this: when memory is full, programs use this reserve area on the disk instead of being closed.
- On the Summary tab, press Add on the “No swap” line.
- If you leave the size empty, it is chosen automatically: 2 GB if memory is 2 GB or less, 4 GB otherwise.
- Swap is permanent; it stays on after the server restarts.
